Review: Gwendy's Button Box

Gwendy's Button Box Gwendy's Button Box by Stephen King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a fun, quick read.
Obviously I've read a fair few books by Stephen King before, but I've never read anything by Richard Chizmar.
Seeing as I'm going to be appearing in a book with him soon I thought I'd check this out.
Have to say I really enjoyed it. And I have to give big credit to Chizmar's writing!
How do I know who wrote which parts??!
Well, I don't, that's the point. The whole book flowed perfectly. I have absolutely no idea when one author stopped and the other started.
I won't go into the story, it'll only take you a day or so to read it. Just check it out, you'll enjoy it.

Review: The Ghost of Molly Holt

The Ghost of Molly Holt The Ghost of Molly Holt by Amy Cross
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My first read of Amy Cross.
I've heard the name mentioned many times, and even appeared in a few books with this author. Finally I decided to give her work a go.
Have to say that I'm very pleased that I did! This certainly will not be the last thing I read from Cross.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Really creepy, really tense and all round just a really fun read.

Review: Blaze

Blaze Blaze by Richard Bachman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

First impressions?
This book is basically a modern day "Of Mice and Men".
You've got the huge dumb guy who manages to stumble through like with the help of his smaller, smarter friend, George.
Honestly. When this book started I was waiting for the big guy to ask about the rabbits!
Once you got passed that, it actually turned out to be a pretty good story. Even though Blaze is quite blatantly the bad guy, you actually start to feel for him a little bit.
A fairly predictable ending, but an enjoyable read at least.

Review: Books of Blood: Volume 1

Books of Blood: Volume 1 Books of Blood: Volume 1 by Clive Barker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I've tried reading Barker a couple of times and given up. MISTER B GONE and SCARLET GOSPELS are two that spring to mind.
Now I know that Barker has some hardcore fans and they're always shocked when I say I haven't liked anything I've read. When I tell them the titles I tried they are never surprised. It appears I picked two of his weakest....
Anyway, the one recommendation that always comes up is BOOKS OF BLOOD.I had a voucher for a free audiobook so thought I'd give this one a go. SOOOO happy I did! This is the Barker I always hoped to find when I read his work. The guy that I know created Hellraiser and Candyman! I really, really enjoyed it. Some stories more than others, but that's normal.
End result anyway is, I will definitely be trying out more Barker.

Review: Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom Animal Kingdom by Iain Rob Wright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Very, very good!
Really enjoyed this book. I listened to the audioversion of it. The narration was great.
The story itself was awesome, such a great concept. I love Iain's writing, it just seems to flow and makes for very enjoyable reading.
Can definitely recommend this to pretty much anyone. It draws you in pretty much straight away and the character development is done so well that you find yourself detesting some while rooting for others.
Check it out.

Review: The Influence

The Influence The Influence by Bentley Little
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I listened to the audioversion of this book. I really enjoyed it. My first taste of Bentley Little, but it certainly won't be the last.
I'll be honest. I didn't even read the synopsis. I just wanted to try one of Little's books so I picked this one at random. Really glad that I did!
Quite a bit more graphic than I was expecting, I mean, I've read and written some pretty messed up stuff but one scene in this book actually make me wince.
Definitely recommend!

Review: Amnesia

Amnesia Amnesia by Matt Hickman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Really enjoyed this book. Started off as a little bit of a slow burner, but you could feel that it was going to get really dark. It was like a blanket just slowly coming over the characters, slighter changes here and there in their mannerisms. and then boom! It goes off, and it goes off big time into a complete brutal gore fest.
Really finishes with a bang. Good fun read, would definitely recommend.

Review: The Crow Girl

The Crow Girl The Crow Girl by Erik Axl Sund
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was listening to the audioversion of this book. I've gotten about 8 hours in and had to give up.
I'm not sure if it was a lack of attention on my part with it being audio and not a proper book, although I've never had an issue with them before, but I just could not follow what was going on anymore.
It was constantly jumping back and forth between characters and time periods until the point that i was confusing one character with another.
So sadly this one will go down as DNF.

Review: The Darkening

The Darkening The Darkening by Christopher Motz
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My first read by Motz and it won't be my last!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. A really good coming of age horror story.
It actually had a real feel of Stranger Thing, the TV show to it.
I've heard recently through the grapevine that there's a sequel in the works to this book.
I'm really looking forward to that.
